Sunday Quiz – Top Jackpot Tonight is £120

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £120. Cheat: Dinosaur Jr. (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Depeche Mode (music round)

The music round cheat for the Persevere is a fairly obscure one. Unless you’re my age. And into the kind of stuff I was into then, specifically, at that time. So it’s probably quite a good one to give you as a cheat.

Video is home made:

Next week’s Sunday quiz at the Percy may be slightly affected by the World Cup Final but hopefully not.

Kick off is 4pm so if it runs to 90mins then we’ll be OK. If there’s extra time we might start slightly late.

Tolbooth will be unaffected.

So let’s hope Belgium pump Croatia in normal time.

Speaking of football, did you know that the Hibs season starts today? Outrageous. Some kind of testimonial apparently.

Of course, the real season doesn’t quite start yet. The first tie in the Scottish League Cup is not until Wednesday night.

Come to the quiz.

Yo!

My Sunday Quiz Brings The Boys To The Yard

(and they’re like – ‘its better than yours)

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Czech (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Enrique Iglesias (music round)

Wikipedia says that Enrique Iglesias is the “King of Latin Pop”. That’s an excellent honorific title.

Quick quiz: Do you know these other ones?

  1. HB = King of Calypso
  2. B = The Queen of Avant-Garde
  3. JB = The Hardest-Working Man In Showbusiness
  4. SC = King of Soul
  5. ND = The Jewish Elvis
  6. LR = Godfather of Punk
  7. CP = King of Rockabilly
  8. PM = Godfather of Goth
  9. JL = Mr. Eurovision
  10. LJ = King of Crunk

While you try to work them out, here’s the music round cheat for tonight at the Tolbooth:

Apparently the tune “features Ciara”. I know a woman called Ciara who lives about four streets away and I know another one  who lives in Glasgow.

Fun facts, but I don’t think the the woman in the video is either of them. This is, ostensibly, a new Ciara.

Come to the quiz.

Sunday, March, Protest, Quiz, Win

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Mah Jong (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Julian Cope (music round)

Sunday. You can march along Princes Street for women’s rights in the afternoon then come to the quiz afterwards and win the money, blow those MEN out of the water.

Which men? The men that make up BLUE FOX TUESDAY, who are threatening to win another seasonal championship at the Persevere.

Blue Fox Tuesday – Sometimes Invulnerable

Tonight’s cheat music is Julian Cope (for the Tolbooth Tavern) with an interesting take on suicide bombers. It’s titled: ‘All The Blowing-Themselves-Up Motherfuckers (Will Realise The Minute They Die That They Were Suckers)‘.

No official video as Cope in a not a bankrolled mega-artist, but someone has put the song to some footage from Afghanistan. Here’s a non-reality version if you would like to hear the song but avoid the gore:

If you ARE actually a suicide bomber, then don’t. All you do is kill people and make a mess. Everyone is sad and nothing gets fixed.

Come to the quiz instead and win booze and money! Everyone is happy and all problems are solved.

This Is Sunday, What A Sensation

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Duran Duran (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Orson (music round)

Sunday Sunday. I’m up early but I can’t hang around here – I have to get ready for my legal battle with the trademarks people on Tuesday so I’m going to keep this brief.

Tonight’s cheat music is ONE OF THOSE BLOODY AMERICAN BANDS THAT SOUNDS ALL THE SAME

Apparently there was no official video for this. Someone’s made a lyric video on youtube. It’s all you really need.

Come to the quiz. You will find it delightful.

Sunday Pub Quizzes On Tonight In Edinburgh

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Mars Bar (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Eddy Grant (music round)

Sorry if you were at the Persevere last Sunday when we were unable to go ahead with the quiz due to the large number of Hibees in the bar.

It was disappointing for me too but that’s just one of those things that comes with the territory but maybe we could crowd-fund a campaign to only have football played on Saturdays ONLY.

The good thing is that the pub agreed to make the jackpot a rollover, so we are up to £90 tonight. That’s cool.

Anyway, here’s tonight’s cheat item which relates to the music round at the Tolbooth Tavern

It’s Eddy Grant, the one where he’s got a raft rather than the one where he’s got a motorbike.

I like both. I might even play both tonight. Come to the quiz to win money and find out the happy or sad ending to this Eddy Grant whirlpool.

Sunday Night Pub Quiz Action in Edinburgh

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: S.W.A.T. (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £180. Cheat: One True Voice (music round)

Here is the music round cheat aid:

It’s one of those many many boy bands who fell by the way. No worse or better than the others, just maybe less lucky.

Tonight is your last Sunday chance to play Dead Pool for the month of May.

Sunday Satisfaction

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: The Horrors (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £150. Cheat: French (pic round)

Sunday is a good day but the music round clue for tonight at the Percy is a bit meh. Here it is:

It goes on a bit. Listen to twenty seconds of it and you’ll get the idea.

I have nothing to say except that Dale Winton was better than Verne Troyer who was, in turn, better than Avicii.

I don’t think anyone had any of them in Dead Pool.

Sunday Night – Good Jackpots Are On Offer Tonight. Will You Be Tempted Out

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £120. Cheat: Moscow (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £120. Cheat: Heart (music round)

Both jackpots have reached a good level for tonight’s quizzes. Will you be tempted out of your nest and your Netflix and your solitude and your depression?

I thoroughly recommend making a social out of Sunday before the creeping darkness of loneliness overcomes you.

Here is the music round cheat info: a clip from tonight’s music round at the Tolbooth:

FACT: This pop video has more hair than the cat and dog home at Portobello. It is great.

By the way, if you see Phil Collins anywhere on the internet, remember to alert the authorities, as his campaign to control the mind of every living soul is gaining ground.

Whatever you do, don’t look him in the eye.

Turn away.

Half-Term Quiz Machine

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: The War On Drugs (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Washington DC (pic round)

It’s half-term. That will mean nothing to many of you, but for those of use with kids it means a different kind of week.

Like everything in the world, it’s almost impossible to classify this as either fully “good” or “bad”.

Plus side: No hauling out of bed in what feels like the middle-of-the-night, just to fulfill the school’s totally arbitrary “start time”, and all the pain that involves.

Plus side: No homework, and all the pain that involves.

Minus side:

Why are you still here?

Why can’t I get on with any of my stuff?

Why do you need everything done for you?

Sure, it feels like bad parenting but yes you can watch Netflix for the next three hours if it means I can get anything done at all.

When are you back at school?

Monday?

Excellent.

Obviously, this has got little to do with the quiz except to say I might be slightly more disorganized than usual for the coming week’s super quiz events.

Why am I telling you? Maybe I’m trying to pre-secure some forgiveness.

Anyway:

The War On Drugs is a good name for a band. I like it. It could mean the conventional meaning: a war AGAINST drug proliferation. You could read it like you’re AT war and ON drugs.

Who knows?

By the way, I love all the people that come to the quiz. Here are a few teams from the Tolbooth Tavern:

Sunday Night Pub Quizzes Edinburgh

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Molly (music round – see vid below)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Vauxhall Vectra (pic round)

Sunday has been NAE QUIZZES for a couple of weeks so its good to be back.

The song in the Percy music round is a UK Eurovision entry from a couple of years ago, widely hailed by Eurovision fans as the Britain’s “least shit” entry for about a decade.

Fair enough. It was never going to be a winner though. Other countries do stuff like this and do it better than we do. Molly finished seventeenth.

Only four and a bit months to go until Lisbon. It’s getting exciting.

Both jackpots are sixty pounds tonight. It’s been a while so I had to look up the records but both were definitely rollovers on the 17th December.
