Wednesday Quizzes Only Half Disrupted by England football

Quizzes tonight:

7pm – The Joker & The Thief. Jackpot £30. Cheat: Simple Minds (music round)

9pm – Brass Monkey, Drummond Street. Jackpot £30 Cheat: Ra (pic round)

The England football team (men’s) have played themselves into a World Cup semi final and it’s on at the same time as the Joker quiz tonight.

For some of you, this won’t matter at all, but for others it’sa big big deal.

If it’s a big big deal then you probably don’t want to come to the quiz. We’ll have it on the tellies but with the sound down and the quiz going ahead.

So if you really need to hear those bigoted, biased commentators then we’re not the pub for you.

As far as everything else, tonight is a normal Wednesday.

Here’s a sneak look at one of the music round answers for the Joker & The Thief tonight:

It’s the Minds, daein’ Minds things. Sexy.

Reading the comments on every single video featuring early Simple Minds is the same. People saying “whoooaaar – they used to be really good before they became stadium shite.”

I can see what they mean but I still liked ‘Ghostdancing‘ when it came out.

caaaahhhnts

Also, by the way, Cunto Cards are back in stock and I will have a few decks with me tonight if you’re looking for a pack.

Up The Peak Of The Week

Quizzes tonight:

7pm – The Joker & The Thief. Jackpot £180. Cheat: Gomez (music round)

9pm – Brass Monkey, Drummond Street. Jackpot £60 Cheat: Cherry (pic round)

Don’t stay inside crying. Come out to the pub tonight and win all the moneys.

Just think: £180 at the Joker. Sweet and nice. This could alleviate a power-bill problem or if all is sorted on the bills front, you could buy yourself a wee day out to Newcastle on the train and have plenty of money left to get pished when you arrive there.

You know, to fit in.

This might help: the cheat tip for tonight’s music round at the Joker. It’s Gomez who were popular for a short time round about 1999.

And when I say “popular”, what I mean is that this song got to number 21 in the charts and was more or less their biggest hit.

The video is a good idea – a recreation of the old health and safety films that used to fill up the gaps on TV between ‘Mister Benn’ and ‘Nationwide’.

Quality concept.

Anyway remember the wisdom: if you can possibly arrange it, bring someone older and someone younger to the quiz to be on your team. It’s one thing that an really make a difference to your score.

Thursday Makes Monsters Out of Moles

Quizzes Tonight:

7pm – Argyle Bar (Cellar). Jackpot £60. Cheat answer: Suede (music round)

9pm – The Newsroom. Jackpot £150. Cheat answer: Alanis Morissette (pic round)

The other great thing about tonight’s quiz at the Argyle is your chance to meet the organisers of Pint Fest, Scotland’s newest boutique music festival which is taking place in a back garden in Marchmont in May sometime.

The organisers live over the road from the Argyle and chose last week’s quiz to launch their extravaganza.

No bands booked when I last checked but it seems likely to be the event of the summer.

I hope they manage to book Suede.

I always liked Suede and I really liked this when it came out. But it seemed that no one agreed and it was the death of their glory days. Suede was over. Suede was finished. People moved on.

This is the cheat tune for tonight’s music quiz at the Argyle:

After that it was Radiohead and the Strokes and the Arctic Monkeys all that nonsense, as far as guitars were concerned. None of them as good as Suede.

Anyway, you’ll hear approximately twenty seconds of the glory of Suede tonight. Maybe I should fill up my playlists with some of their other terrific works.

By the way – don’t miss Cunto Cards. Still some first edition packs left. Stop me and buy a pack at the quiz or get them online at cunto.org

Wednesday Night Quizzes in Edinburgh

Quizzes tonight:

7pm – The Joker & The Thief. Jackpot £60. Cheat: Blur (music round)

9pm – Brass Monkey, Drummond Street. Jackpot £60 Cheat: Geena Davis (pic round)

Heyyy. Wednesdays are sexy like a salmon sandwich, but on really good bread.

The Joker is  a smooth midweek lounge lizard snake pit. The Monkey on Drummond Street is a filthy hive of fuck knows what.

There’s something for everyone.

Here’s the music round cheat for the 7pm quiz at the Joker. It’s Blur being a bit awkward. I like the song though.

Meanwhile, do you doodle on your jackpot sheet? It makes it more difficult to read the answers, but it can be visually stimulating.

Sunday Pub Quizzes In Good Old Edinburgh

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Londonbeat (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Zimbabwe (pic round)

You’ll recognise the cheat-music clip from the Persevere music round tonight. It’s a 1991 super-classic:

Mental. Not as mental as anyone who bothered visiting Hampden the other night to witness the most inevitable 0-1 home defeat of all time.

I don’t even know why this is in my head. I’ve found it harder and harder and harder to give hoot what Scotland is doing in football as the years wear on. What’s that? 20 years ago now since France 98. Le sigh.

This is the music round cheat from tonight’s music round at the Newsroom: (there’s a guy with an absurd rainbow jumper in the band – don’t miss the clip)

Dead Pool Full List for March 2018

It took me slightly longer to get round to imputting Dead Pool data this month.

By the time I got to my keyboard, Stephen Hawking, Jim Bowen and Ken Dodd had all dropped.

It’s easy to get them mixed up.

Meanwhile, I’ve done the typing and entering, so here is the full list of those selected for the reaper during the month of March.

Eagle-eyed readers will quickly spot which of the three legends above has been predicted, meaning we already have a winner but we have to wait until the end of the month to find out if someone MORE FAMOUS dies from the list.

After all, that’s the game.
