Sunday Night Pub Quiz Edinburgh

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Nick Drake (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £120. Cheat: Reese Witherspoon (pic round)

Come on now and get out of your lazy fat sunday sofa. Shake a leg. Break a sweat. Move a muscle. GET TO THE QUIZ.

You will be rewarded with intellectual stimulation, a drink and a chance to achieve legend status.

Here’s the music round cheat which pertains to the Percy tonight. It’s Nick Drake:

Nice stuff. Quality hippy folk sound. Drake never made the 27 Club-  he died when he was just 26 years old.

Drake’s death was an overdose and was officially ruled as suicide, although the singer left no note.

Don’t worry though, don’t be spooked. I’ve listened to this song for many years and although it’s performed in a minor key, it hasn’t made me kill myself. I haven’t caught suicide by listening to it.

Which means the quiz will go ahead as usual tonight!

Take note – £120 at the Tolbooth tonight. Yeah.

Yo!

Sunday Roast Quiz With A Side of Potatoes

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Sofia Loren (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Tricky Disco (music round)

There haven’t been a lot of Sunday rollovers recently but both venues have a rollover this week. Good.

Here’s the cheat info for the music round at tonight’s Tolbooth quiz. It’s an instrumental rave=chart crossover from before you were born (1990).

Great stuff. The Good Old Days. G.O.D,

One day, in the future, today will be the good old days. Make sure you remember it was the time you won the quiz. Hot.

Anyway – See you at the quiz tonight!

Sunday Night Pleasure? See Quiz.

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Air Supply (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Man Ray (pic round)

Sunday is often a challenge for humans. Especially if there’s work the next day.

Scientists have been working on the problem and their findings are clear: IF YOU WANT PLEASURE ON A SUNDAY YOU MUST ATTEND A PUB QUIZ.

This is science. Best believe it.

Meanwhile here’s the wee cheaty bonus for reading my bullshit: an answer for tonight’s music round at the Percy:

Whoa. Sixty eight million views. Hardcore.

I have never had any interest in Air Supply beyond their occasional appearance as an answer on Popmaster. I’ve just looked them up on Wikipedia and I’m not really any more inspired. They’re mainly Australian. I didn’t know that.

Anyway – See you at the quiz tonight!

Sunday Night Pub Quiz. Come to Leith. Come to the Canongate.

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Frogger (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: The Tweets (music round)

Hey – it’s raining again and a bit colder. What happened to that summer? It’s only been away for a week. I miss it already.

Anyway – one thing that is NOT affected is the quiz. Sunday night provides two excellent experiences. Try one. Try both.

Again, it’s late in the day, so I’m just going to cut straight into the free music round answer which relates to the Tolbooth Tavern quiz tonight:

I was watching one of the “Story Of…” Top of The Pops documentaries the other night (one year per episode) and the 1981 episode was saying that this performance of the Birdie Dance (by The Tweets) was the very last appearance of Legs & Co. on Top of The Pops.

They had been the house dancers for years and, judging from their contribution to the docco, they are still pissed off that The Birdie Song was their swan song.

The song gets a bad press. It was also voted “Most annoying song ever” in a poll by dotmusic in 2000.

It was also voted as “Least Metal Moment of All Time” by VH1, specifically the time that Vince Neil out of Motley Crue led the annual Chicken Dance at the annual Oktoberfest in Cincinnati.

See you at the quiz tonight!

Sunday – Loving The Quiz

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Leonardo da Vinci (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Gabrielle (music round)

Again, lots of jackpots getting won in the last week, so low jackpots tonight.

You see the text at the top, that’s me giving you free answers for each of the quizzes tonight. The music round clue for the Tolbooth is a song by Gabrielle, which sounds like this:

Aye. Gabrielle. Heigh ho. I have nothing to say about this at all.

See you at the quiz tonight!

Sunday, A Thrilling Chance To Beat Everyone Else

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Curlew (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Joss Stone (music round)

The quiz had lots of jackpot winners over the last seven days. so pots are down this week but happiness is high.

The only thing that could spoil the vibe is finding out what’s lurking in the music round at the Tolbooth Tavern tonight.

Yes, it’s Joss Stone:

I don’t like this song. Not my cup of tea, but I didn’t realise it was a cover of a White Stripes number.

I knew both songs but never noticed they were the same song until I read the youtube comments on the Joss Stone version.

We keep learning.

Tonight is your last Sunday chance to enter a Dead Pool. I took entries on Wednesday and Sunday and as well as the usual strong showing from Prince Philip, The Queen and Justin Bieber there was also a rush of “smart money” onto Demi Lovato.

Personally, I wouldn’t recognise Demi Lovato if she came to the front door selling mops. The news about her overdosing left me shrugging but I’ve looked her up and it seems she used to be on Barney and Friends and Disney Channel and then she was a pop singer and did all sort of telly. Her biggest hit in the UK charts was called ‘Heart Attack’ and, to be fair, isn’t great.

Just in case she DOES come to your door selling mops, Lovato looks like this:

Sunday Evening Pub Quiz Action, Edinburgh

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £180. Cheat: Daft Punk (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Vauxhall (pic round)

The music round cheat for the Persevere is daft Punk but doesn’t necessarily sound like Daft Punk. Not least because the bloke doing the singing is Paul Williams, better known as the guy that did the music for Bugsy Malone back in the 1970s

The whole song is over eight minutes long. That’s longer than Bohemian Rhapsody, although it has not attainend the same cultural impact.

There’s no way Ken Bruce would play this at the end of Popmaster. It’s too obscure. Not Steely Dan enough. Not Dire Straits.

Thanks for coming to the quiz tonight if you’re coming and, if you are coming, don’t be the ones that take the hump.

Great jackpots tonight!

Epic hit. So powerful and so obviously written by the Bee Gees, perhaps the universe’s most potent songwriting team of all time.

Sunday Night Edinburgh – Pub Quiz Your Way To Happiness

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Plan B (music round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £90. Cheat: Natalie Portman (pic round)

Here is the music round cheat info: a clip from tonight’s music round at the Percy:

The video has a courtroom theme. I was immediately bored by it and the music itself. You may feel differently. That’s the wonder of human taste.

In the (near) future when everything is dominated by robots, there will be no choice or variety, no human moments and utter darkness and metallic bleakness wherever you look.

If I survive the initial onslaught of the killer robot soldiers I will long and pine for the days when something like “She Said” by “Plan B” was even possible.

So let’s not be too hard on the guy.

By the way, ninety quid jackpot at both quizzes tonight. Not bad at all!
