New Quiz

The Portobello Tap is a brand new quiz in a brand new pub in good old-fashioned Porty.

The seaside bit of Edinburgh has always been a cool place to go but now it’s a cool place to live and the increasing amount of cool people have forced the High Street to open a cool pub.

That pub is the Portobello Tap and they’re so cool that they have booked Kerry to come and present the DP Quiz every Monday night.

They do burgers till ten. Go and check it out, win the inaugural quiz and become an all time legend.

Cheats

Here are the music round cheats for tonight

The first is for the Argyle Bar:

Dua Lipa – unconvincing attitude pose

It’s Dua Lipa. I’m not convinced by this song and video of hers.

If you really want to communicate to an ex-lover the idea that you “don’t give a fuck”, what’s the best way to do it?

Is it to ignore them?

Or is it to write and record a pop song, and create an accompanying pop video that features full-blown costume, make-up, dancers and choreography?

Anyway – what do I know?

The second featured music round clue for tonight relates to the Safari Lounge. It is this:

I’m more comfortable with this. It’s the boys from OMD, cutting about in a nice piece of industrial decline.

When the video for this song was shot (1980), you could find these disused factories everywhere. There were about six of them on every street.

You could play in there all day and neither your parents nor Jimmy Savile could ever find you.

Happy days.

See ya later – x

Monday 3rd June

It’s the third of June and I bring you quizzes with vast jackpots that can change (temporarily) your life.

Pub Quizzes in Edinburgh Tonight:

7pm – Brass Monkey Leith. Jackpot: £100. Cheat: OMD(music round)

9pm – Safari Lounge. Jackpot £240. Cheat news: Orchid(pic round)

Tonight’s music round cheat is for the Brass Monkey Leith and is a dirty old banger by OMD. Watch the video to hear the tune:

The Cult, tearing up the mid-eighties

The song includes some great lyrics.

Tesla girls, Tesla girls,
Testing out theories,
Electric chairs and dynamos,
Dressed to kill, they're killing me

Great stuff. In true pop lyric style, the song doesn’t mean much on its own. It just makes you feel.

It makes you feel: technology, electricity, future, ladies. Kinda like Roxy Music, but more laboratory and less singles bar.

OM3 - NIKOLA TESLA - T-Shirt PHYSICS POWER NERD ELEKTRIC GEEK ENERGIE EMO, M, khaki

Anyway – that’s at the Brass on Sunny/rainy Leith Walk.

The big big money is at the Safari tonight where many teams got bust last week and the rollover grew unexpectedly to a mighty £240.

For that you could get a car. Probably.

Anyway, See ya later – x

Wednesday 5th Dec – Quizzes Tonight In Edinburgh

Quizzes tonight:

7pm – The Joker & The Thief. Jackpot £30. Cheat: OMD (music round)

9pm – Brass Monkey, Drummond Street. Jackpot £60 Cheat: Myanmar (pic round)

It’s midweek in December, the month that’s dominated by Christmas. All I’m saying about Christmas is don’t miss out on Cunto Cards – the only gift that’s guaranteed to raise a laugh this year

Cunto Cards
Cunto Cards. Utterly hilarious. Twelve pounds.

Anyway, Cunto is just the sideline. The main business here is pub quiz and tonight we have NICE QUIZ for you.

Here’s the tune that’s my free answer for the music round at the Joker tonight. It’s eighties Scousers, OMD:

I always thought the singer out of OMD looked like John Collins who used to play for Hibs and Celtic.

Whaddya reckon?

I hope you like that. It took over ten minutes.

Anyway, come to the quiz and we’ll all live happily ever after.

Yo,

Sunday Night Edinburgh Pub Quiz Action In Leith and The Old Town

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Billie Holiday (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Ultravox (music round)

I used to love Ultravox when I was a kid. They sounded so cool. Here’s their tune which is part of the music round at the Tolbooth tonight.

The video is something to do with aviation and the war and the South Coast of England and architecture and monuments, all the same kind of shit OMD used to be into.

Classy business.

By the way, here are some Persevere moments:

Edinburgh Pub Quiz Thursday Night. Mega Jackpot Tonight

Big old jackpot tonight at the Argyle, the biggest seen there for a wee while. My tip: get in for half six and you’ll almost certainly get a seat. If you turn up at quarter to seven or later, you might struggle to get a seat.

There’s also the Newsroom tonight. Loads of seats there.

7pm – The Argyle Bar (Cellar). Jackpot: £240. Cheat news: picture round includes the answer Twin Peaks

9pm – The Newsroom. Jackpot: £150. Cheat news: one of the music round pieces is by OMD. See video below to hear the tune.

This is just one of OMD’s great eighties hits which were all about technology. They were such geeks, Such cool geeks.

They also did one called ‘Electricity‘ and one called ‘Messages

Both absolute storming synth pop classics. Top band. Dressed like maths teachers. Are you a maths teacher? Don’t get upset by that last remark. Download some software and make synth pop. Then everyone will think you are cool. You think people think you are cool now? They don’t. Don’t think you dress like that? You do.
