I somewhat identify with Steve Wright. A long career in entertainment. Thinks he’s funny. Some people liked him. Loads of people thought he was an arsehole. Out of shape.

I need to sort my shit out or I’ll be dead at sixty-nine too.

I didn’t enjoy “Wrighty” in the latter years on Radio 2, but I still think fondly of his eighties show on Radio 1, especially the “Mr.Mad” character. I loved that.

“Listen boy, I’m maaad.”

“How mad are you today, Mister Mad?”

“I’m living in a bin.”

It doesn’t look much written down but the voice made it. So good night, Wright. Not as brilliant as Kenny Everett in the history of wacky British radio entertainment, but deserving of a mention.

Meanwhile, for the survivors, it’s Valentine’s Day.

Listen – do NOT go to a restaurant tonight with your beloved. I’ve Feb 14 in restaurants. It’s not good. All the bookings are twos, so the restaurants get the small tables that are usually pushed together for fours and sixes, and they push them apart to create more twos.

This would be fine, but the space in the restaurant remains the same no matter the calendar date, so the tables end up being pretty close together.

The result is a “battery-couples” effect. A line of candidates. Men on one side, women on the other. Mainly staring each other and talking about food choices. There’s not a lot of intimate chat going on because the tables are so close together, everything you say can be heard up to three tables away. For most, this is icky.

Come to the quiz instead. Whisper the capital of Kenya in their ear and then tell them how much you love them. And win some romantic booze and sexy money. Loads better.

Music Round Clue for Joker & Thief Tonight:

This is THE HUMAN LEAGUE and one of their 1980s belters which will be gracing the music round this evening at The Joker. I love the you-are-here schtick at the start of the video. Imagine all that paint!
