Thursday 1st February 2024

They said it would never happen, but it’s February.

I know you don’t all agree but I’m personally a big fan of January. New beginnings.

Over the last month I got stuck writing my novel with renewed vigour.

This action adventure blockbuster is the greatest thing ever written and it’s been cooking away for a couple of years but I’ve had enough of fannying around and I’ve decided I need to get it finished.

Fortunately, I’ve now found the pocket: the time of day where I can make this happen which is very first thing in the morning.

We’re talking around 6am.

That’s when I get up and, before I do anything else, I get the MS Word on and type. No one else is up and I am not disturbed. Between waking the kid up, helping her get ready and out the door for school, I can write an average of 500 words by the time I’m done, which is 7.40am.

And in terms of the book, that’s me done for the day, and I can get on with quiz stuff.

So it’s not much each day, but it adds up. I’m just about hitting 30,000 words now. I’ve timetabled the progress as follows:

First draft done – end of March

Second draft – end of June

Last draft – end Sep

Published – by Christmas

So you’ll be able to buy it then.

What’s it about? It’s about a French superhero named Eiffel Power and his evil enemy, The Black Pudding. It’s totally amazing. Really well written.

The next part of the plan is early 2025 when I will sell the animation rights to Adult Swim or similar company. I already know my price: 1 million. No more, no less. This can be in Pounds, Dollars or Euros. I’m not fussed.

Then, once the cheque has cleared, I can take some time off and actually relax for a bit. First time in years.

So you’d better come to the quiz now while you can.

Before I end up on some stupid yacht.

Music Round Clue for Strathie tonight:

This dance banger from the late 80s dance is by Capella, and it’s in the music round at the Strathie tonight. Like so many dance hits at the time, it never got radio play on release, but was only in the clubs and the parties. Such nights would have certain bangers that really hit home with the dancers, who would ask the DJ what they were listening to. It mattered. The dancers NEEDED to get this record for themselves. This was not an easy task, especially for obscure releases from Italy So the people would phone radio stations and ask them to play it. And some radio stations would stop playing Kylie and Rick for a few minutes and put these dance records on. Now because this was BS (before Spotify), and the whole nation could only listen to one song at a time, the effect could be cataclysmic. When a song got played on the radio it would instantly reach one sixty million people (or 120 million ears) simultaneously. Next thing you knew, a hit was born. This tune got to #11 in the charts and I still love it.
