God, it can be unpredictable. I was thinking that Hot Toddy was struggling but there were eight teams yesterday. I know it doesn’t sound much, but it’s the best we’ve had and it’s decent for the venue. Rollover though – £200 next week.
Then, I thought the Percy was going well. The Sunday before was maybe the busiest yet since I’ve been back and then last night was virtually dead. Very quiet. 7 teams.
You never can tell.
Anyway, Monday is always a hit and there are rollovers tonight to help: £150 at the Brass Monkey Leith, which is very rare, and £100 up at Brass Drummond St which is par for the course because the children of the middle classes tend to avoid playing the jackpot unless their sure about the answers. So fewer entries, so more rollovers.
I could be wrong, but I believe the Edinburgh Uni kids are brought up to despise anything they consider to be gambling, that risking money on little slips of paper is lower-class and foolish.
Of course, their mummies and daddies may well have investments that rely on the public to gamble. Have you seen the share prices of Ladbrokes, 888.com and all? (I haven’t looked but I bet they’re high.)
Have you seen the people getting awards and honours for making billions in the gambling industry. I’m talking about the real gambling industry. The one-suicide-per-day-in-the-UK gambling industry, not the two-quid-quiz-jackpot industry.
Gahh!
