It’s BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY tomorrow. Which means you can go out and come to the quiz and then get stuck in and get leathered and end up in the Royal Oak TILL 3am and roll home at 4am, none the unmerrier.
Or, maybe it doesn’t.
I used to get annoyed when I was a kid and I was listening to Radio 1 with Gary Davies or Bruno Brookes or whoever was on, and they’d be making a big hoop-la about a bank holiday.
And of course, sometimes it would be one of those bank holidays that didn’t apply to Scotland, so when that happened you felt the same rage as when Jimmy Hill or some other ignoramus would be commentating on English football on a British channel and referring to the England team as “us” or “we”…. and you would rage and seethe at the implied colonialism.
It’s that sort of thing, drip-fed over the years which led to the resurgence of the SNP. I’m sure of it. When I was a kid, the SNP were very much on the fringe – not a big deal at all. It’s forgotten how quickly and how recently they became the big cheeses in Scottish politics. It’s not until the 2015 election that SNP won a majority of Scottish seats at Westminster.
Anyway – back to the point. I still have to listen to radio broadcasters whooping up the bank holidays but I never take a bank holiday off because I’m a self-employed pub entertainer and it’s not what we do. Lot’s of people in the same boat.
