Things I’ve already learned at the quiz this week.

Prison Break

Prison escapes happen fairly regularly. Our prison officer insider told me the other the night that the last one he can remember was in December.

The story went that the Police got him back by going to the guy’s drug dealer mates and saying “tell us where he is, or we’ll just stand outside your flat and you won’t be doing any business today…” so the dealers snitched on their pal and the cops got their man and took him back to chokey. Everyone has their price.

Under the Counter baccy

You know most of the price of the baccy is tax. Apparently there’s a shop in Fountainbridge that dodges this and apparently you can get 50 grams of baccy for £11. It’s under the counter and you have to ask for “tea”.

Frontal Cavalry charges

Dan was schooling me on military tactics last night at the Safari. He told me that a cavalry charge scene in one of the Lord of The Rings films is directly based on the French cavalry charge at waterloo. same number, same terrain. He went on to tell me about the ineffectiveness of a frontal cavalry charge, especially compared to the wheeling and spiralling tactics of the Mongolians.
