World Cup fever is here, if the marketing is to believed.
OK, but my fever has been heavily tempered by the fact that the first Scotland game is on so late on Saturday night that it’s actually 2 in the morning on Sunday.
Over the last few days I have come to terms with the fact that I will NOT be watching that game.
I mean, I’m getting old. When was the last time I was awake at two in the morning? And that’s just the kick-off time. When was I ever awake at four am this decade?
I’ll settle for the highlights reel on the BBC website on Sunday morning, four happy minutes of watching Shankland and McTominay RATTLING the goals past helpless Haiti and then I can get on with my day. That’s all I want.
Thus I feel purified, freed from world cup fever. Let the marketing continue.
