I was chatting to someone last night at the Persevere who had gone back to University as a mature student to do History of Art, but didn’t finish the course.
It was too political. According to wherever it was she was studying, the term ‘Renaissance’ couldn’t be used because that implied the stuff that came before was bad and this could be triggering. There was a similar ban on the word “Baroque”.
Cannot confirm just now, but this sounds mental. Is anyone else on a similar course where certain “old-fashioned” terminologies are now avoided?
Anyway, we don’t have bans on things at the quiz, although I have been trying to thin-out the number of questions that ask about tragedies or murders and so on, especially if they’re within living memory. It is supposed to be entertainment, after all.
