Hey it’s the sixth of April which means the tax year finished yesterday. Which means I COULD do my 2024-25 tax return today.
But you know I probably won’t. I’ll probably leave it until January. The afternoon of January the 31st, to be precise. Sigh.
What about you? If you’re self-employed and do your own tax return, what’s the earliest you’ve ever submitted? I bet there’s some of you who are doing it today. I’m jealous of your organisation.
You know what? Just writing about it now, I’m tempted.
But then I’ve got all these dishes piling up, and I’ve got washing to do. And my daughter needs my help with a few things later that I promised I would do. I’ve got to eat at some point, and then there’s the quiz at six. Dah. I’m probably not going to get around to it.
Anyway, I hope you have a lovely Sunday whether you’re doing a tax return or not, and I’ll see you at the Percy, if you’re coming:
6pm – Persevere (with me)
Jackpot – £30
Free answer – PICTURE round: “RUDYARD KIPLING“
Book: 0131 554 0271 or get in touch with them on Facebook
With quiz and love,
Dr Paul
A Peek Into The Past:

Rembrandt’s painting of a historic pub quiz event in Leiden, Netherlands, in 1640 in which a team-of-one, a Mr Nicolas Tulp, was in the lead at his local tavern quiz where the jackpot was 3 guilders (loads of money in those days).
As the double-or-bust round began, Tulp was spotted looking up a question on some handwritten notes and a cry went up.
Tulp quickly swallowed the notes and this led to his immediate murder by many of those in attendance, followed by a ceremonial opening of his belly, upon which the cheat notes were found and his quiz crime was confirmed.
For the less serious crime of murder, everyone was let off by the judge who remarked in his summary “Justice has already been served, I can do no more”.
