No Waverley tonight, it’s another one of our venues that’s off for the fringe. Back in September.
Hope you’re happy now, you juggling buffoons.
Actually, Keir told me story the other night about a show at the Waverley last year when he was working downstairs and, as you might know, the shows are upstairs.
Suddenly an American tourist comes running down the stairs from the show that’s in progress yelling “FIREARM! FIREARM!”
Given the accent barrier and the unlikeliness of the scenario, Keir initially interprets this as “Fire Alarm” and says “What? There’s a fire alarm?” but the American clarifies by screaming HE’S GOT A GUN, and scarpers out of the pub.
So there’s a fella upstairs with a gun?
Despite wondering if he should scarper himself rather than getting shot for minimum wage, Keir decides to try and evacuate the pub. So he makes an announcement: tells everyone to leave right now because there’s a man upstairs with a gun. The punters all stare back at Keir and don’t move, presumably thinking that this is perhaps some kind of Fringe performance.
Keir loses the rag and yells at them all… GET OUT NOW. They leave.
The story carries on and it’s a good story but the important thing is that, in the end, no one got hurt.
The comedian whose show was interrupted by the incident is Ralph Brown and he’s doing a show this year about last year’s incident. It’s a show that kind of wrote itself.
Keir reported that Ralph said his fellow comedians didn’t really sympathise with him, calling him a “lucky lucky bastard” for having such great material fall into his lap.
Ah, comedians.
