I was talking with Mal last night and, once again while talking about comedy I realise that Kenny Everett is almost completely lost on anyone who’s even ten years younger than me. He’s just not widely remembered by people under 40.

Makes sense. Cuddly Ken was the King of Comedy for several years in the 70s and 80s but almost completely dropped off the radar from about ‘83 onwards.

At that time he was more or less replaced from in my own comedy pantheon by The Young Ones and after that, anarchic comedy was widely available and more or less mainstream.

People talk about how ‘The Fast Show’ was revolutionary. But brilliant as it was, it’s just Kenny Everett-type things with more actors and less General Cheeseburger.
