Festive disruption is ALMOST over.

There is no quiz tonight at the Joker (which is always closed for the first few days of the year) or the West Port Oracle which is doing the same.

But the Ship is back with Eric tonight and I’m at the Brass Shore, which never went away in the first place.

Meanwhile, at home, the school holidays rumble on and those of us with kids are thinking “why are these school holidays so long?”

Mind you, even when they do go back there’ll be another set of holidays just around the corner. February “half-term” or whatever.

Then it’ll be Easter, then Summer and so on.

You know, if they cut down on these holidays then the kids

a) might actually learn something

b) Could get the curriculum finished and then start earning their keep at something like twelve years old.

They’d be done by that age. O Grades, Standard Grades, Highers, A Levels, the lot. All by twelve. Imagine the national development!

Then they could start contributing.

Like the GOOD OLD DAYS.
