I met someone the other day who actually appeared ON Tiswas. You know, back in the day. This was the real deal. The seventies, the eighties, come on.
State-sanctioned comic violence, sponsored by advertising and produced by Brummies. Carrying punk to post-punk. When Lenny Henry was still funny and Chris Tarrant was bearable and Sally James was the apex of woman for every boy in Britain.
Great stuff. But what’s the truth?
Maybe Tiswas was actually rubbish. I honestly don’t know. I used to love it. It’s hard to be objective about something you loved forty years ago.
What is the modern equivalent of Tiswas now? Asking for an elderly friend which is my brain.
