Thursday 3rd August 2023

It keeps happening where one player shouts out a solution to the anagram and NEARLY gets it right, but simply gives it away to a sharp rival.

It happened last Thursday when Simon shouted “Yorkshire” only for another team to pick up the correct answer: “North Yorkshire”

It happened on Monday when an unfortunate Swedish visitor who was quizzing with Paul McCartney Mall Cop and went with “A Man Called Ove” which more or less gave away the correct answer (‘A Man Called Otto’) to another team.

This was particularly unlucky as our Swedish visitor was giving the original title of the book on which the film is based (it’s a Swedish book). But I asked for the film. And it’s not the answer anyway. So no points. I think she was a little bit upset by it.

That’s the anagram. A tough mistress.

My only real recommendation is to take one second longer to sanity-check yourself before yelling out a nearly-right answer.

Then again, you have to be first, so maybe that’s a stupid recommendation. Maybe just go for it.

I don’t know.

Put it this way – I’m glad I’m setting them and not actually answering them.

Music Round Clue for Brass Grange

This is NORAH JONES and it’s in the music round at the Brass Monkey Grange tonight. I really like the song and I like the idea of the video (sailing a tenement through New York) although this is the second time I’ve seen it and on second viewing I feel it’s maybe not as mad as I remembered from the first time I saw it. I think the video could have done with more people in it. Still better than any pop video I’ve ever made.

Meanwhile:

Tory MSP candidate Darren Watt faces the quiz.
