Today’s main news is that the weekly Tuesday quiz at the Old Eastway Tap quiz is OFF for the time being.

A noise issue, with history going back to when the pub was the Four-In-Hand, means the pub are in danger of losing their license unless they pretty much eradicate amplified music and speech. Obviously, this includes the quiz.

Please come to the Safari instead. It’s up the road a wee bit and it starts at 9pm. Same format. Nice.

I know that whenever this sort of thing occurs, people try to lay hate on the people in the flat. They say “How the hell can you move into a flat a above a pub and then complain?”

Well, yeah, but the Tap are sympathetic to their neighbours, plus it turns out that there used to be much more insulation… but previous builders stripped it out, leaving just the ceiling of the pub,  a gap,and then the floor of the flat. In the words of Tap boss Scott it’s “created a giant drum”

So the Eastway Tap is officially cancelled for now. I’ll keep you informed through the usual channels when we see what’s happening. I’m aware that the pub is investigating how to get effective sound insulation put in place.
