First is a piece of classic chaqrt hip hop by Artis Leon Ivey Jr. – o to give him his stage name: Coolio.

That’s the kind of thing you play in the pub and it immediately causes at least ten people to exclaim “tune” and the heads start bouncing. It’s been like that since it was a hit.

Meanwhile, the music round cheat for the Argyle Bar is some tremendous old American mania by a highly influential band from the 1970s: The New York Dolls.

It boasts quite literally the greatest pop video ever made, and a clear inspiration for Michael Jackson’s Thriller which came later:

Great stuff. Foreshadowing the Cramps, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and all kinds. Morrissey was a big fan of the New York Dolls, ran the UK Fan Club – but you probably already knew that.

So get your rock on and get to the pub. Sometimes that’s all that matters.
