I was chatting last night with Callum about music last night. We agreed that late 70s Pink Floyd is good when you’re twenty years old. All the angst and the world-tragedy. Nowadays I much prefer the Syd Barrett stuff.
We also talked about Lou Reed and Calum said he had a friend who to live in New York City where he was a dog walker. One of the dogs he walked was Lou Reed’s dog.
You might think – “that’s a cool life, being Lou Reed’s dog,” but there’s a price to pay. Apparently this dog was getting… piano lessons.
Hmmm. Sounds like abuse. Also, sounds unlikely. But then Reed was, of course, you remember, married to avant-garde artist extraordinaire Laurie Anderson. It starts to make sense.
And now I’ve just gone and looked it up and it’s kind-of true.
And much as I want to take the mick, it seems this was intended as a form of therapy for their little terrier Lolabelle who eventually died from a rare form of DOG CANCER. Anderson explains here
And the music isn’t bad. Obviously with human owners like Reed and Anderson, Lolabelle’s stuff is pretty edgy, pretty hip.
Who knew?
