Tuesday 23rd January 2024

I had a dream this morning about being in Dunfermline. Moments later it got even less glamourous and I was in Penicuik.

Cor. Perhaps my horizons are narrowing. I used to dream about the pyramids of Egypt and life on Mars. Now I’m stuck in Fife and Midlothian.

Mind you, just as I’m typing this, I’ve remembered that I had a dream just last week where I was travelling through the Democratic Republic of Congo, using a mixture of transport modes: trains and jungle river boats, so I’ve still got it.

I remember the vivid technicolours of the Congo: jungle green, hot yellow flowers, lovely big silver train with green trim. It was vibrant.

But I have no idea if this morning’s Penicuik dream was in colour or not because, as you’ll know if you’ve been there, Penicuik is a monochrome landscape of light beige. It’s a suburban pallor of death rinsed in eerie watercolour over the tombstones of the human spirit that are the houses and the shops.

Whether or not Penicuik is represented in colour makes no difference. It looks the same.

Music Round Clue for Waverley Tonight:

This is in the music round at the Waverley tonight and it’s JOAN OSBORNE. Definitely one of those songs where the tune is more famous than the artist.
