NEW QUIZ – NEW QUIZMASTER

Tonight at the Waverley Bar on St.Mary’s Street – our new quizmaster Bonni begins quizzing you. She’s from Inverness but she’s been living in the city a while so she speaks our language. I invite you to go and see her first ever quiz at the Waverley which is a great wee bar. I had never been in there until the other week but it’s nice. Quiz is in the upstairs room which is a great wee venue.

ISLA BACK AT PORTY TAP

The Queen of Portobello returns. Isla is back. No more having to put up with my nonsense.

LAST NIGHT – “THE ACCUSATION”

In post-quiz discussion outside the Monkey last night, Fashion Icon Robert responded to the trope “nobody likes a grass” with the assertion “The only time I ever support a grass is in this building on a Monday night.”

This all followed a live on-mic legal trial at the end of the quiz where an accuser (Ed) dropped the cheat-bomb on winning team Alcoholics Anonymous.

Now, I can’t just throw a team out of the quiz on one guy’s say-so, so we staged a trial in which Alcoholics Anonymous were free to defend themselves.

They did this at least semi-convincingly but the crowd still felt uneasy.

Taking the Scottish legal precedent of ‘Not Proven’ I decided to give AA another chance by declaring a tie-breaker between them and runner-up team The Sigma Gang.

We went through two questions before either champion from the top teams could answer and in the end it was Alcoholics Anonymous who prevailed.

Robert was on the Sigma Gang team and declared it “a dark day for the quiz” but I think the outcome was reasonable and I stand by everything that transpired.

And Robert also won the Brian May-autographed Morphy Richards steam iron. So it’s not all cloud and darkness.

Bottom line – put your phone AWAY during the quiz rounds. I know for a fact that the vast majority people are NOT cheating, but it’s always a bad look to have the phone out during the questions and the best you can do is turn it off and put it away. That way, no one can accuse you.

See you tonight!
