Thursday 17th August 2023

I went to a Fringe thing yesterday which was a guy doing a PhD at Cambridge and talking about Artificial Intelligence. Not comedy, just talking about the technology.

The show was called ‘How to Avoid The A.I. Apocalypse’

Conclusion – you cannot avoid it. We’re screwed. There are probably a few months left of normal life before A.I. destroys everything that used to be normal and builds a new society that may or may not leave you fucked.

So that’s cheery.

Or it might be fine. Truth is, nobody knows.

It’s this uncertainty that turns us on. That’s why you come to the quiz, cos the uncertainty of getting answers to questions is a wee bit thrilling. Maybe the answer is Myanmar. Perhaps it’s Peter Capaldi. No one knows.

When you DO know, it’s satisfying but when you DON’T know, it’s drama.

I think that’s how it works anyway. And you like a beer, and hanging out with your pals. There is all of that too.

Come and experience another round of this pleasure tonight. Before A.I. renders you obsolete.

Music Round Clue for Strathie:

This is STATUS QUO and their song ‘Paper Plane’ which is in the music round at the Strathie tonight. Proper old rock and roll. When I was a kid I used to think Status Quo were quite a “hard” band. But really? They’re quite plinky-plonky. Quite folky, in a way. Loveable and simple like a farmer’s dog.

Meanwhile:

Here’s an old Jackpot round for you.
