Simon Dupree And The Big Sound Alert

Psychedelic George from Team Spirit (at Brass Monkey) has asked me a few times about Simon Dupree And The Big Sound.

I says “Naw – I never heard of them”

But when I finally get round to looking them up – I definitely know one of their tunes.

It’s a belter and it got to number 9 in the UK charts in 1967. In fact it was their only hit.

After a brief spell where they had Elton John as a stand-in keyboardists (when he was plain-old Reg Dwight), the band split up and then reformed as 1970s prog-rock megaliths Gentle Giant

This is their big hit and is has a Haunting Sound!
