The guy on the right of this photo is called Troy. An Irish bloke who was at the Newsroom the other Thursday, boozing it up, quizzing it down, and having a rare old time for himself.
As a quizmaster I meet loads of faces but I can’t remember all their names. In fact, I can’t remember 20% of their names. There are a lot of Adams. there are a lot of Lauras.
To my shame, there are regulars who have been coming to the quiz for years whose names I still can’t get to stick in my head. And there are bar staff whose names I just can’t seem to fix and then it gets to the point where it’s slightly demeaning to them and embarrassing to me to ask them again.
But Troy? I only met him once and I can remember his name easily. Why? Because it is a belter.
My conclusion and advice: if you’re having children, give them memorable names.
