Scott got cancelled the other night, for ONE little lesbian joke.
“Hey – you’re not allowed to tell lesbian jokes, only we are,” said his neighbours at the bar, MJ and Freya.
“Did you just get cancelled?” I asked Scott.
“I think so,” he said.
I stand with Scott on this one. I didn’t hear the joke itself, but I will NOT be cancelling Scott.
Do you remember when they tried to cancel Kate Bush because she may have said she supported the Conservative Party?
Honestly folks, it’s not worth the effort. Imagine you had to check on the moral rectitude of every artist before listening to their pop records, or watching their films, or looking at their paintings. It would drive you mad. It would wear out your connection to Wikipedia.
The only sensible thing to do is separate the art from the artist. After all, ‘Rock n Roll Part 2’ is still banging tune, of the all-time variety.
To be honest, Kate Bush could be a full-on practicing Satanist Nazi Cat Burglar and I would still listen to her records. They’re too beautiful to miss.
