Sunday 11th August 2024

So, obviously the Festival(s) is dominating the city.

Yes, you can’t walk anywhere. Yes, you need to leave an extra half hour for the bus. But I still think we would miss it if it disappeared. it gives Edinburgh a shot in the arm, a bit of life.

What I’m not so sure about is the idea that it brings a lot of money to the city. The modern way seems to be that the big Fringe venues build their own catering to keep as much of that healthy tourist dollar as possible in their own hands, so less trickles out to the actual Edinburgh businesses.

Overall, the three weeks of transport hell is probably positive, cash-wise, for the city, but maybe not as much as might be hyped.

Anyway, if you’re in the mood to avoid the fest, then come to the Percy or The Porty Vault tonight, both at 6pm.

But if you want to embrace that old town buzz, then come to Hot Toddy at 8pm.

Hot Toddy is also a PBH Free Fringe venue with shows earlier in the day and then again AFTER the quiz. The quiz finishes just before the start of Chris Cook – Jazz Magic, so you can come and win the quiz and then see the magician. Decent night out – all in one venue.
