Yesterday I ended up on my sofa watching ‘Big’ (1988, Tom Hanks).
The film is very mental and has a weird and problematic section where it’s heavily implied that a grown-woman (Susan) has sex with Josh who is 12-year old Josh trapped in a man’s (Tom Hanks’s) body.
What’s the legal view on this? Is it statutory rape? Overthinking, obviously, but it’s a weird bit. As I was watching the “romance” developing I was thinking they might not even kiss because in Josh’s mind-of-a-child he just wants to drink Pepsi and play pinball. But then, the next minute, he’s shagging her.
Jarring, to say the least.
