Sunday 6th August 2023

Hey! It’s Sunday and Sunday means a quiz at the Persevere.

You can tell when someone’s a quizmaster, cos they’re always thinking of new questions. Dylan gave me a fact the other night about traffic lights in Haverfordwest. Nigel gave me a fact about the dual carriageway at Longniddry.

They were decent facts. They now enter a holding zone where I scribble a note and then, when I get some time, I’ll research them properly and then construct a question around the fact.

If this passes muster, then the questions will enter THE DATABASE and will eventually emerge in the form of a pub quiz question that you have to answer.

Just in case they do come up – this is what they told me:

Dylan – “The last county in the UK to get a set traffic lights was Pembrokeshire, in the town of Haverfordwest. And this was only about ten years ago.”

Nigel – “The stretch of dual carriageway at Longniddry was an experiment and was either the first in Scotland or in the whole UK.”

Just to mitigate feelings you might have about men telling me road-history facts in pubs, it must be said that this was off the back of a question I had asked at Brass Shore on Wednesday night about the history of traffic lights. They weren’t just hitting me with random road knowledge.

Anyway – these facts have been logged and, like I say, after they go through the processes, they may emerge as questions.

This is how it works.

Anyway, see you tonight at the Percy for £60 jackpot!

Love,
DP
