The cheat answers for tonight include this song by Kool & The Gang:

The song is probably about sex but it might just be about disco. Nobody knows.

Anyway, as you do know: Thursday is currently MOVIE Thursday: I’m counting down the list of my ten favourite films of all time.

I’ve been at this for two months now and here is the chart so far:

10 .Flash Gordon (1980)

9. Jesus Christ Superstar (1979)

8. The Good The Bad & The Ugly (1966)

7. Zardoz (1974)

6. Das Boot (1981)

5. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004)

4. Hair (1979)

This week:

3. Mary Poppins (1964)

This week’s greatest film ever made is a straightforward crowd-pleaser, (although not in the profanisaurus sense).

Basically, if you don’t like Mary Poppins you must be dead. Your soul escaped and your body is a rotting shell. You are a virtual corpse.

How the HELL can you not love this?

The songs are great. The emotions are simple and everlasting. And while the children might be wee dicks, they mainly stay out of the way of Dick Van Dyke who is busy being really really entertaining.

Are you trying to say you don’t like dancing penguins?

Are you trying to say that the word Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious doesn’t delight you in some small way, every single time, no matter how old and cynical you have become?

You must be dead.

Look, there goes your soul, flying over the chimney tops like a shit cloud. Because you’re dead.

But never mind. Here’s a wee bird.

And if you think it’s just fluff, remember that the beating heart of the Mary Poppins story is universal suffrage:

And we respect the politics of this. Excellent.

Next week: we enter the crazy world of Dr Paul’s favourite films ever – The Top 2.

See you tonight

Cheers,
