Sunday 13th October 2019

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Andy Warhol (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £150. Cheat: Barbra Streisand (music round)

So the big jackpot went at the Tolbooth last week and we are back to pretty much normal.

Big pot of the week is tomorrow night at the Portobello Tap where Kerry is giving away £150.

But Sunday quizzes are the quizzes for you if you want to get out the house tonight and MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

CHEATS

By the way, here’s the audio cheat for tonight which refers to the music round at the Tolbooth:

Sexy Blimey

This song is like smooth buttery audio whipped cream. It carries the unmistakable Bee Gees touch and it’s from a time (1980) when the battered corpse of punk lay defeated at the feet of SMOOTH.

This is the era of Imagination being rolled up in carpets and George Benson laying down guitar on roller skates, the age of Smooth.

Smooth was king, no more arguments. Everything nice.

Well, that’s how I remember it anyway but then I again I was in primary 3 and when you’re that age, reality is watery at best.

Away from the peaceful and smooth primary 3 classroom full of R&B and smooth jazz funk, there was probably a whole load of riots and knife-fighting heavy metal punk angst. Possibly in Primary 7, but we never went up that end of the school.

See you tonight

Love,

Dr Paul

The Seal of Approval

This won a prize for BEST TOP at the Tolbooth Tavern last week.

A fine old joke. Nicely delivered

I don’t always give a prize for Best Top but sometimes if I have a prize spare and I spot a great top, then I do.

This chap got a scratchcard for his seal and I can’t remember rightly but I THINK he won bugger all.

Can’t quite recall.

Thursday Can Be A Total Snake In The Grass

Just when you weren’t expecting it: QUIZ TIME

7pm – Argyle Bar (Cellar). Jackpot £60. Cheat: One of the answers in the music round is The B-52s. See vid below to hear the song.

9pm – The Newsroom. Jackpot £50. Cheat answer: One of the picture round hits is Esperanto.

So many great versions of the B-52s song. This is one of my favourites. Also If you have half an hour, you can watch the whole gig

Last week’s Thursday post had a nice picture of a seal. My daughter loves seals and we look at seals a lot. We look at Google images. She’s only seven so I have my hand on the mouse to make quick clicks to avoid her seeing ones like this:

Or worse…

Thursdays Are Pure Barry

Quizzes in Edinburgh tonight:

7pm – Argyle Bar (Cellar). Jackpot £30. Cheat: One of the answers in the picture round is Antarctica.

9pm – The Newsroom. Jackpot £150. Cheat answer: One of the music round hits is this old banger by Adamski:

Seal and Adamski look about fifteen years old in the video. The tune stands up -still bangin’ nearly 30 years later.

The thing about Seal is that he is not a seal, he is a man. I always feel ripped off when I hear him talked about but then I didn’t get to see a real sea;.

For anyone who feels the seals like I do, here’s a picture:

Ooh yeah.
