My Voice Has Repaired So Come To The Quiz, It Won’t Sound So Awful This Week

Quizzes in Edinburgh Tonight:

7pm – Brass Monkey Leith. Jackpot:£150. Cheat: Paula Radcliffe (pic round)

9pm – Safari Lounge. Jackpot £60. Cheat news: The Stranglers (music round)

Jeezo. Last week’s Monday gigs were bad enough. Wednesday and Thursday were worse. I sounded like a cartoon villain in sandpaper factory.

I sounded like a frog with Tuberculosis.

I sounded like the interference between channels (millennials wont get this)

Anyway, however you describe it precisely, I generally sounded like shit.

Now, because I usually sound so damn beautiful, this was a personal tragedy. Me losing my voice is like if you lost your feet, hands and knees. In other words: not cool.

So I’m not one hundred per cent back to the golden tone, but definitely I sound a lot more like me. It is a relief.

Anyway, blah blah, here is the music for the cheat on the music round at the Safari tonight:

Song includes the lyric “who gets the job… of pushing the knob?” which by itself is enough to count the song as a WIN.

The Stranglers will not be playing live at the quiz tonight. But come along anyway. £150 is no to be breezed at.

Sunday Edinburgh Pub Quizzes

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Guinea Pig (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £30. Cheat: Ashford & Simpson (music round)

Here is the music round cheat for the Tolbooth. I used to like this song when I was a kid:

The guy’s got loads of soul glow and swaggering soul-knits. And leather trousers. He looks a bit like Barry White but less fat.

I don’t know whatever happened to Ashford and Simpson. But They look like emotional people. I bet they were as deeply affected by the death of Harambe as any of us.

I think my voice is nearly back to normal. Wednesday and Thursday were horrible. Sorry if you chose to sit through that.

Thanks for the various wishes of recovery, but If you really are worried about my health, the quickest way to get me back to fitness is to buy a deck of Cunto cards.

Thanks for that!

Thursday Pub Quizzes In Edinburgh

Quizzes Tonight:

7pm – Argyle Bar (Cellar). Jackpot £30. Cheat answer: Dead Cities (musc round)

9pm – The Newsroom. Jackpot £50. Cheat answer: Netherlands (pic round)

Thursday is all about a nice pint and the cave vibe (Argyle).

Thursday is all about the uptown swagger and a possible pagger (Newsroom).

Thursday is all about cool friendly local inclusion. No judgement. (Argyle).

Thursday is all about tanning cocktails until Armageddon bears down (Newsroom).

You know – different vibes.

But, in the famous and well-known words of Scotland’s very own Marti Pellow, “THURSDAY IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT”.

Former heart-throb

Meanwhile, here is the cheat clip for tonight’s music round at the Argyle.

It’s The Exploited. The story goes that the Edinburgh punks made this appearance on Top The The Pops and subsequently the singer (Wattie) had his dole docked when he went to sign on the next week as his Dole Officer had watched the show and now recognized him as a pop star.

It’s a great story but searching online for verification has proved fruitless over the last ten minutes or so. Does anyone know if it’s true or false?

Whatever you do, don’t miss the quiz tonight. All non-attenders could potentially be raptured by Satan.

Wednesday Pub Quiz Edinburgh

Quizzes tonight:

7pm – The Joker & The Thief. Jackpot £30. Cheat: Open Water (pic round)

9pm – Brass Monkey, Drummond Street. Jackpot £90 Cheat: Architects (music round)

Big jackpot got won last week at the Joker by the SPECKIES, so well done to them and it means that our biggest jackpot tonight is at the Monkey. Ninety pounds on offer.

Here’s the cheat tip for the Monkey, it’s some rotten old pop garage thing from 2000. You don’t hear stuff like this very much these days except in Dr Paul Quiz music rounds

Meanwhile, I listed the May dead pool entries this morning. Have a look at the post for more detail, but basically all the smart money has moved onto George Bush Sr. (the older, less dippit of the Bush prez duo)

Hope to see you at the quiz tonight

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £180. Cheat: One True Voice (music round)

Here is the music round cheat aid:

It’s one of those many many boy bands who fell by the way. No worse or better than the others, just maybe less lucky.

Tonight is your last Sunday chance to play Dead Pool for the month of May.

Make Your Thursday Night A Quiz Triumph

Quizzes Tonight:

7pm – Argyle Bar (Cellar). Jackpot £30. Cheat answer: Crystal Palace (pic round)

9pm – The Newsroom. Jackpot £100. Cheat answer: Simply Red (music round)

Thursday offers you the chance for sexy underground vibe in Marchmont or upfront street cocktail action at the Newsy. Both are terrific beyond comprehension.

If you’re coming to the quiz tonight, be aware of the cheats mentioned in the details above. It’s like a free answer.

Here is the cheat clip for tonight’s Newsroom music round.

It’s Simply Red who used to dominate the UK Singles Chart like Google dominate search. This was one of their most memorable hits:

In fact, it was their first hit and it made Mick Hucknall a star and ginger-haired sex-symbol.

It’s a cover version. The original is American and has a hefty, sleazy-funk edge. Is it better? That’s up to you.

The Whole Monday Thing

Quizzes in Edinburgh Tonight:

7pm – Brass Monkey Leith. Jackpot:£50. Cheat: The Bean (pic round)

9pm – Safari Lounge. Jackpot £90. Cheat news: Wyclef Jean (musc round)

Tonight’s Brass MOnkey quiz is the third fifty-quidder in a row. Will someone win the jackpot again? It’s not like the questions are getting any easier or any harder.

These things sometimes just go in runs.

Meanwhile, here’s the video which reveals the cheat clue for tonight’s affair at the Safari:

That’s the second Monday video in a row that’s been filmed in an airport. Don’t presume this is planned or a theme or some kind of clue. It’s just the quiz and this is just a co-incidence.

Tasty Sexy Wednesday Night Out At The Quiz

Quizzes tonight:

7pm – The Joker & The Thief. Jackpot £150. Cheat: The Ting Tings (music round)

9pm – Brass Monkey, Drummond Street. Jackpot £30 Cheat: Lancaster (pic round)

Shaka Zulu! We’re up to £150 at the Joker and one of the star attractions at the Joker is seeing boss-man Roddy’s face at the moment we find out if its a rollover (boyish delight) or a jackpot (raging scowl).

Don’t miss his involuntary reaction tonight!

Meanwhile come and see what’s gong on at the Monkey. The new manager has thinner legs than the old one but, apart from that, things seem to progressing normally. There are still plenty of beers and plenty of students strung out on couches through the back like some kind of weird 1969 Amsterdam scene.

Here’s the music round cheat for tonight (which applies to the Joker). It’s the Ting Tings:

I like the song and I like the video. Both are catchy and simple, it’s the kind of thing we should be sending to Eurovision (LESS THAN A MONTH TO GO)

Excitement!

Yo!

Sunday Night, So Bright, Don’t Fight. Quiz Glory Awaits.

Tonight’s quizzes :

6pm – The Persevere. Jackpot: £60. Cheat: Leffe (pic round)

8pm – Tolbooth Tavern. Jackpot: £120. Cheat: Westlife (music round)

Hey. It’s Sunday and, as I type, the weather is good. Take advantage, go outside for a while.

Then when you realise how tedious outside can be (nowhere to buy beer, nowhere to politely piss) then come back inside to the pub where everyone is your friend and you can get food and booze and win the quiz.

Here is a clip from the music round at the Tolbooth tonight:

Just like the Wizard of Oz, the video begins in black and white and then dramatically leaps into colour just as it gets to the good bit.

The good bit in the Wizard of Oz is where Dorothy travels to Oz and kills the witch and meets the Munchkins and literally everything goes completely bananas.

In the Westlife video, the “good bit” is just the chorus. 1939 > 2001

I mean, it’s a decent enough song. It’s the sort of thing that would have easily won Eurovision in 1995.

I’ve started properly listening to Eurovision songs for next month. The criticism of this year’s Iceland entry is that it sounds like a winner from the 1990s. It is predicted to fail to qualify from the semis.

My favourite so far is Greece or France or Cyprus or Moldova. Not sure yet – will need a few more listens. I’ll keep you updated because I know you care, deeply.

Edinburgh Wednesday: Terrific Quizzes in Excellent Pubs

Quizzes tonight:

7pm – The Joker & The Thief. Jackpot £120. Cheat: Walrus (pic round)

9pm – Brass Monkey, Drummond Street. Jackpot £90 Cheat: Jethro Tull (pic round)

Another two rollovers last Wednesday so tonight’s pots are over a hundred quid each and getting bulbuous and exciting like something organic and bursty.

Here’s the music round cheat for the Monkey quiz. It’s Jethro Tull, the band that named themselves after the man who invented the seed drill.

The video’s a bit ropey, but.

Meanwhile, here’s what people look like when they win the quiz. Clock the satisfaction:

Yo!
