Leith Monkey: The Fifties Start Here

Nothing says the fifties like the Fonz, a grown man living in a suburban family’s garage with sexy designs on the mother AND daughter downstairs, while occasionally holding court in his “office” which is a toilet in a diner, controlled by a fat man called Al.

So here’s the new #dpquiz graphic to promote the FIFTIES which tenuously connects to the fact that the jackpots at Brass Monkey Leith (7pm)are now £50/week instead of tired old £20/week.

_fonz 50 ayyyy

The revolution begins tonight and the cheat news for tonight is that Queen are involved in the music round, specifically this slab of epic from Flash:

Quiz the Youth Tonight

The youth come to the Wednesday night quiz at the Monkey because they don’t have to get up for work in the morning on Thursday and they like a drink any old night.

Of course, some of them claim they have “coursework” and stuff like that but you just know they’re in a take-it-or-leave-it situation. So easy, like sliders.

Anyway, if you’re older, you can come and vicariously leech the energy of youth in a play-by-play osmosis which will leave you younger and drunker.

You might even win the quiz.

Cheat news for tonight is that the quiz contains the answer “I Want To Know What Love Is“.

It’s not in the music round, it’s somewhere else. It’s about this epic song from the eighties. THE EIGHTIES. thu aytees:

Quiz starts at 9pm

Bigger jackpots, better! Great! Starting tonight

The jackpot was supposed to be £40 tonight at the Brass Monkey Leith (7pm) but we’re putting uit up to £50 and from next week onwards the rollover/jackpot will always be £50.

So instead of:

£20 – £40 – £60 – £80 – etc…

the rollover progression will now be:

£50 – £100 – £150 – £200 – etc…

I think you can see how this will be better.

Meanwhile: cheat news tonight is that the quiz contains a hit by NU GENERATION which is a 2000-reworking of an old 60s song, thus:

Serious quizzin’.

Rothschild and Bangles, That’s your Cheats Tonight

Tonight you should get out. Out of your mind. Out on the razz. Out of control. Out for a couple. Out the closet if you’re in one. Out of excuses.

The quiz can make all of this happen. Come and drink. I’ll give you answers and questions – I’ll decide the order.

You could win a shitload of money. £60 at the Persevere at 6pm and £180 at the Tolbooth Tavern at 8pm. Holy hell.

One of the answers at the Percy is “Rothschild

One of the answers in the Tolbooth music round is The Bangles. This is the song:

How Alice Deejay Stopped Me Going Insane In Penicuik

Tonight’s line up of jackpots and cheat:

7pm Cellar Monkey

Jackpot: £20

Cheat: the music round contains Alice Deejay (see below).

I used to live in Peebles and had to get bus through Penicuik to get to Edinburgh to present the quiz. Listening to Alice Deejay, this tune specifically, made the Penicuik section of the journey bearable. That’s the power of Europop. But I don’t really need to anymore because I now live back in Edinburgh and, by Christ, life is better.

I still love the tune but I don’t NEED it quite so much.

9pm Newsroom

Jackpot: £150

Cheat: One of the answers tonight is Adrian Mole
